Pastor Shannon Watterson preaches about making room for God to move in each and everyone of our lives. Before God can pour out His power, we must clear distractions. Distractions is one of the greatest enemies of devotion. If we want God to move in power, we have to make space in our hearts, our calendars, and our church for Him to dwell fully.
Our church is entering a harvest- a spiritual harvest. But first, he is calling us to make room. Before revival, there's always a call to repentance, reflection, and reordering.
Luke 10: 38-42
Do we have habits or distractions that keep us from accepting the inviation to sit at Jesus' feet?
Martha is not doing anything wrong. She was trying to make everything perfect for Jesus- but she missed the point. He did not come for perfection, he came for her heart. Distraction is just as dangerous as disobedience because it is subtle. It can make us busy with good things, while blinding you to God things.
It is like tyring to fill a full cup with more water. There is no more room in the cup to fill it up because it is already completely full.
Devotion requires attention.
Luke 10: 39
This story comes after the Good Samaritan. This scene shows us how to love God. Luke put them side by side on purpose. Serving matters- but not at the expense of sitting. Action and adoration aren't enemies- they are partners.
Mary sat at the Lord's feet- she was intently listening. She chose to dwell with the Lord. How often are we dwelling at his feet?
What we make room for multiplies.
Martha made room for tasks, and they multiplied. Mary made room for presence and peace multiplied. Our time we spend at the feet of our Lord will never be taken from us. That is a promise from Him.
Are we checking boxes off our to do list? Or are we prioritizing our relationship with God?
Set a time to meet with Jesus everyday, and guard it like your life depends on it.
What is something we can carve out of our schedule to fill that time with Jesus?
What is taking up space in our life that can be carved out? Social Media? Hobbies? Tasks?
We are praying for God to move in this house, but revival doesn't land in cluttered spaces.
Ask yourself theses questions:
- What is one area of my life that's overcrowded?
- What's something I need to say "no" to this week so I can say "yes" to Jesus?
- What would it look like to sit at His feet this week?
- Who is watching my life to learn what devotion looks like?
